Collaboration

Collaboration

There is no “me” only “we.” The myth of the writer alone banging away at the keyboard is only true for a masochist. The work is always better when handed around between trusted friends and collaborators. Even when working “alone” we’re working “for” the audience. Our characters are always there with us. And the producers and patrons who make stories possible are collaborators of the first order as well.

True stories collaborate with the tools of fiction: story structure, narrative arc, scene, setting, dialogue. And fictional stories collaborate with solid research and the minute particulars taken from lives truly lived.

Working as teams within teams, we build stories that invite audiences to relax into a welcome distraction when it’s most needed. To explore the corners and crannies of the human condition through vicarious experience of every sort. To become active protagonists in life and to have compassion for ourselves and each other along the way.

The stories we create change us as we make them, and then we dive into the next draft and the story has deepened based on who we have become now, and we learn from the next round and the story goes deeper—again and again. A Mobius loop of connection between us and what we make.

“As we make stories, they create us.”
